The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD) (R) came into force in 1969. Member states commit to eliminating racial discrimination and promoting tolerance. The CERD also requires signatory states to ban hate speech and racist organizations. It is monitored by the UN Committee to Eliminate All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
